70" x 50 Acrylic on canvas, 2018 Subjects: Nature “Heirs to the Sea,” are multi-media works that explore the vastness and grandeur of the sea. Lexicons of abstracted sea creatures layer with silkscreens of animated characters, operating as forces in oceanic dramas. Referential and continuously evolving between abstraction and nature, the bioluminescent hues explore an abstract language of painted and printed imagery inspired by plants and animals and the sea. Cyphers’s fascination and deep reverence for the diversity of all creation drives her art. “I believe in the healing power of a communion with the natural environment and hope that my art uplifts and encourages contemplation.” “Heirs to the Sea,” explores an abstracted language of printed imagery inspired by the natural world. The work uses a combination of gestural and patterned forms, layering a variety of printmaking techniques. Using the UV rays of the sun, etching ink, stencils and silkscreen, the pictures create an aquatic labyrinth for the human mind. The works are fossils of time, appropriating and reinventing images directly and unconsciously from a protracted scrutiny of nature.
