About The Artwork
I have been feeling deeply pulled towards the underwater world in my creative consciousness lately. In dreams I’m being held by water - suspended in water. There’s a physical freedom that comes with swimming, floating and gliding through water that’s not dissimilar to what I imagine flying, like a bird, must be like. Having grown up surrounded by the wild, untamed oceans of the Cape Peninsula and in more recent years having lived in places like Bali and the Garden Route, maybe it’s not surprising, this longing I now feel. Sometimes there’s a very clear idea, concept or message that I feel called to do my best to try and articulate through painting. And maybe sometimes what drives my work doesn’t need to be anything more complex than a simple feeling I miss.
