ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is inspired by an old Japanese fairy tale. A student, Taira Shoenko, goes for a walk and loses his way. As it gets dark he falls asleep, exhausted, under a cherry tree. He dreams of an extremely beautiful girl who takes him by the hand and leads him to her garden and house. He feels like entering paradise. He wakes up, the girl is gone, and it seems just a young mans phantasy. Years later he encounters his phantom in the flesh, a girl named Hana San. It's obvious that Taira Shoenko and Hana San belong together. I have portrayed Hana San, too. Taira Shoenko has a beautiful black frame (3,5 inch) that was designed uniquely for this painting and for Hana San as well. Both paintings, Taira Shoenko and Hana San, can be hung as a diptych, but can just as well displayed separately.

Shintoïsm, one of the world's oldest religion, is my prior inspiration. the deep spiritual respect for nature in all its trees and plants, water and rivers, are subject of my paintings. In my childhood I loved drawing and painting and won a couple of prizes. My mother died when I was nine. This stopped nearly all my creativity. I studied medical biology at the university and became head of communications. Thanks to my triplets I started painting again.
