ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A very traditionally painted detailed depiction of this classic clipper ship from the glorious days of sail. The Cutty Sark is the only surviving tea clipper, launched in 1869 and now preserved in dry dock in Greenwich, London UK since 1954. Since my early years I have frequently painted sailing ships alongside my more contemporary seascapes because they have always had a magical allure. The true romance with the sea and painting sail has certainly worked for me and hope that you will enjoy it too. This original oil on linen canvas is supplied ready to hang in a specifically selected white painted wood frame with a natural wood surround. External framed size 25.5 x 29.5 inches (65 x 75 cm).

I have long been fascinated with painting water and nudes in water. I find the reflective properties, the movement and the distorting qualities of water provide me with a wealth of challenges. I find that although my aim is always to produce a high degree of realism in my paintings I am constantly using sequences of abstract shapes to achieve an effect. "Peter's work has been seen around the world. In his paintings reflections of both classical and modern interpretations can be found. With superb and interesting techniques he infuses a harmony between natural realism and the painted surface creating subtle yet dramatic imagery. Influences can be identified from many periods of art history. In particular the realism of the late nineteenth century and the photo-realism of the twentieth century."
