"The Long Journey Home" was painted during a time when I was acknowledging all the events in my life that brought me to feeling that I had finally arrived home to myself - feeling calm and peaceful. Johnson begins all her artwork by journaling or writing inspirational quotes on the canvas. Layers of acrylic paint, graphite and mark making are followed by more and more layers. Monica Johnson uses various mediums to build up the surface, exploring spontaneous mark making and subtle forms. This painting is a one-of-a-kind painting on a cradled wood panel done in acrylic paint, graphite, and oil pastel. The painting is sealed with a satin UV varnish to protect it from dirt and light. The edges are painted a light gray. It is wired and ready to hang. Signed by the artist on the back. Monica Johnson Artist.
