About the Artist

Pamela Hare

United Kingdom

Pamela is an artist and printmaker living and working in Islington.
She exhibits regularly in London and her works are held in private and public collections in the UK and overseas.
She presents urban views of the city including Jaipur, Venice and San Francisco.
She is influenced by the myriad richness of colours, contrasts of light, atmospheres and by architectural styles, from Georgian to post-modern and metropolitan cultures and histories.

Pamela's recent paintings and prints contain images of man-made materials in a naturalistic setting and natures response; the beauty of decay illustrated by the infusion of rust coloured hues into a wooden breakwater; the challenging placing of industrial iconic tyres into an estuary sunset; the capture of transient fragmentary images such as the breaking of a wave; the ambiguity of perspective such as walking into the past surrounded by industrial structures, and figurative silhouettes which enact a narrative within the urban landscape capturing moments and images as seen in shop window reflections.

Pamela's work traces the architectural fabric and lay-lines connecting past to present, from church spire to glass citadel and from the smooth liquid surfaces to hard granulated textured images. Iconic buildings such as St Pancras and St Paul's Cathedral, and Regency town houses feature in some of her compositions.

Pamela's prints of San Francisco continue this theme with an interest in its literary, cinematic and musical history.
This is reflected in a panorama of Victorian townhouses in Russian Hill, vertiginous views of downtown buildings including a Chinatown bakery and a vibrant interpretation of the North Beach Bebop Scene. Her recent prints of Venice evoke a journey of labyrinth streets hung with silks,
alongside canals of glittering water , across squares and past sunken palaces of peeling stucco and graffiti.

Her approaches include investigating the relationship between mono and photo-screen printed and painted shapes; the layering of pixelated and textural surfaces and contrasting vibrant colour hues with aged patinas.

Artists that have influenced Pamela include Rauschenberg, Warhol and Mara. Theoretical and cultural influences include Boorstin, Fischer, Scharf and Finch.
