Five roses fallen on a stone cill, the droplets of water on the petals are symbolic of the falling tears of Venus, Goddess of love. Ancient Romans believed that roses grew where the tears of Venus fell to the ground.
I have included some of the progress pictures of the painting here so that you can see how the layers develop. I plan the painting from the onset and create a complete work in Grisail - grey tones, before applying the color in several oil glazes. This is a large piece and is the central focus in any room.
This is a box canvas that is ready to hang

Julie Bond is a full time artist living in North Devon UK. "Movement and the play of light on water, clouds, in fact all of nature inspire me. I use oils on canvas or board in a traditional way and use a renaissance palette as my base. I introduce new colours and use traditional fine art techniques with mixtures of more abstract, broad brush strokes to give life and vitality to my work. Portraiture and figurative art have been my foundation and my latest collections of oils are enjoying more of a free flow with the emphasis on contrasting light and depth. I love the mythological, romantic themes of the famous Bouguereau and the subject and style of Turner in contrast. My paintings are not overtly textural and painterly, but I create mood and interest with a careful build up of thin glazes producing art that is calm and atmospheric." website: directory Listing:
