ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“Tempest" was made during an important moment in my life; it is my way of capturing a metamorphosis. Not my own, but someone very important to me. Someone who, in due time, will no longer be able to express it themselves. It is a depiction of the stormy depths of uncertainty a person can suddenly be forced to face.

The canvas is a map of that person’s soul, marked by the ebb and flow of emotions that are now shaping their life. Life can become a storm, a tempest of reds, oranges, pinks, and blues—each color representing a different feeling that pulls you in conflicting directions.

The reds are the fires of anger and passion, the oranges the flickers of fleeting joy, and the pinks the soft, tender moments of vulnerability. The blues, deep and dark, are the quiet depths of sorrow and introspection, wherein a person can find themselves sinking. This storm raging on the canvas, as in one’s mind, like a cyclone that can’t be contained.
Each stroke a cry into the void, a desperate attempt to make sense of the chaos.

But amidst the storm, there are moments of clarity—glimmers of white, like beams of sunlight breaking through heavy clouds, casting light on the path ahead.

The sun in this painting, shining through the storm, serves as a metaphor for the inner light. A reminder that no matter how dark the clouds, there is always light within, waiting to be uncovered.

Born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, I have always been drawn to the world of creativity and self-expression. My artistic journey began with colored pencils and ink, mediums through which I explored the intricate details of life. Animals have always been a constant source of joy and inspiration for me, and I share my home with three rescue cats who have become cherished companions in my creative space. The path to abstract art, however, came later in life, deeply rooted in personal experiences of loss and transformation. Losing my father at a young age left a lasting impact, and more recently, navigating my mother’s illness opened a new chapter in my life, one that led me to the expressive freedom of painting. Through abstract art, I discovered a powerful and cathartic way to channel my emotions, translating them into color, form, and movement. My work reflects this inner journey, conveying the raw emotions of love, grief, resilience, and hope. Each painting is a deeply personal exploration of the complexities of life, yet I invite viewers to find their own connections and emotions within the layers of my work. I work with extremely pigmented, high quality acrylics, and in every stroke and every shade I aim to create a game of colors where emotions and abstract expressionism come together.
