The Alps (5) - Spotlight in the snow Painting

We were on a hiking tour in the in the mountains of the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern near Matrei, Austria. As often in summer time dramatic clouds formed in the afternoon as sign for an upcomming thunderstorm. Suddenly the sun found ist way through an array of dark clouds lightening up a snow field within a spot light and building an amazing atmospheric contrast with the dark muted surrounding. Materials used: Watercolours (Artist Quality) on Hahnemühle mould-made Ingres paper, 100 g/m² Format of the paper about 46 cm x 64 cm Format of the painting 40 x 60 cm (it is actually about 1-2 mm larger on each side so that it can be conveniently mounted behind a passepartout with a 40 x 60 cm window).
