This painting is currently available at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery. https://www.artsy.net/search?term=michael%20tole https://www.jonathanferraragallery.com/ In this painting, I apply Rococo pictorial rhetoric to the most macho aspect of American popular culture, football, as a social/artistic experiment. In it, the male body is treated decoratively, and placed in a mystically ambiguous setting, reminiscent of Boucher and Fragonard, who are usually coded by art history as painters with a feminine aesthetic. By so doing, I seek to create a place for the male form in the category of "The Beautiful," which our culture tends to reserve for women to the intentional exclusion of men.
