The Birth of an Amulet Painting

This five part painting reflects a fantastical future world where biotechnology replaces the need for religion and provides solutions. In this particular painting, a hybrid man-made creature that is a cross between a goat and a bird, is continually reduced to its essential and most unique feature i.e the wings (added by man). These hybrid mutations serve as amulets for protection against evil and represent our faith in technology. As the hybrid is minimised, it takes the shape of an Amulet, simple and easy to keep with, wear or carry. Hence, a mobile Amulet is born. The fantastic hybrid creatures are made in silver metal and are wearable as pendants. However, I have given them a home in this painting where they float against an earthy sky made of cork. The text in the background is from scientific journals detailing man's accomplishments in the field of biotechnology.
