The Blue Door was made in my studio in Hackney in London. The Studio was on the top floor or an old warehouse behind the High Street where we had to climb three floors on a narrow concrete staircase. I had taken it off its wooden stretcher to carry it up the flights of stairs. It was stored for a long time. I recently brought it to the studio on SArraco. The Blue Door was inspired by an old print I had bought on Camden Market in the 70s. It was destroyed by the water marks when I lived in a damp mews flat in Englands Lane. When I moved to the studio in Hackney I decided to make my own painting of a Blue Door, on a much larger scale, with oil paint on canvas.

After a career in London I went to the University of Hertfordshire as a full time student BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art. The large painting, 'Present Tense Ronda', from the Degree Show is now exhibited in the University's Fine Art Department, and the large painting 'Diner Party', from the same Degree Show, assisted in my application in taking up full time study for the Masters Degree in Fine Art Practice at Central Saint Martins, London. I worked in a studio in Hackney, London, and became involved in a number of art projects including the development of an original Victorian area of Kings Cross in London. At the UH I studied print making use of silk screen and photo-etching techniques in my paintings. The paintings "Breaking Boundaries", "OldWorld/NewWorld", "The Labyrinth" and "Marks in the Sand", document my experience of working in a childrens' home in Vancouver in the 1970s where most of the children were of the First Nation.
