Thank you for visiting my page, and I hope you like my paintings. It makes me happy when someone really likes my artwork. I just started listing my paintings today, and I will be adding more every day. I'm Ana Doolin, a painter and a writer born in Lisbon, Portugal, where I now live and work after more than two decades in the United States — originally I lived in Chicago, and later in Maui, Hawaii. I have been painting and selling my artwork since 2001, and over the years my paintings have found their way into private collections in the US, Europe, and beyond. During my years in Maui I exhibited regularly at Art Maui, one of Hawaii's most prestigious juried art shows. My work was accepted every year I submitted, sold each time, and in 2018 I received the Recognition Award from the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Back in Lisbon, I showed new work in 2023 as part of an international exhibition series, "Artists inspired by Lisbon". Returning to Lisbon gave me back something I hadn't realized I had lost — the particular light of this city, the tiled façades, the iron balconies, the worn beauty of streets that have been lived in for centuries. This is what I have been painting these days. Windows, doors, azulejos, balconies, clotheslines, crumbling walls, polka-dot curtains, hidden architectures. The city is full of familiar scenes that are of pure beauty. The particular way Lisbon light falls on a tiled wall. A balcony with five mismatched pots. A blue door holding its colour while the plaster around it crumbles. These things are found at every step, all over the city, assembled over generations by people who were creating compositions of Art, without trying. And yet, here it all is. I paint in oil on canvas, and on paper for smaller works. I paint very slowly, and I write a text for each work. I hope that you like what you see, and that you find something here that stays with you.
