This painting was hard to make! The subject of the work is the Bradbury Building, made famous by the Film Blade Runner, but an engineering marvel in it's own right. Known for it's copious amount of ornamental iron work, marble floors, and enormous, central sky light, the charm of the building is almost entirely on the interior. The challenge of incorporating the details of the interior of the building on such a coarse linen required a lot of simplification. This is one of the few pieces I have painted that includes an interior. Ink, bleach, acrylic, 12k gold leaf, copper leaf, silver leaf, burning on linen. 48" x 36". This piece is painted in mixed media on a coarse weave linen ground, stretched over a wood panel. The variety of materials enhance and obscure the texture of the linen, much of which is left exposed, creating a unique surface that shifts in changing light. The linen wraps the edges of the panel.
