About The Artwork

The Dragon Mandala combines two ancient symbols into one powerful image as a talisman amulet. The mandala is a geometric symbol of a complex structure, interpreted as a model of the universe. Its typical form is an outer circle inscribed with a square, which in turn is inscribed with an inner circle, often segmented or lotus-shaped. The outer circle is the universe, while the inner circle is the dimension of deities, bodhisattvas and buddhas. The square in between is oriented to the sides of the world and has T-shaped exits on each side, like a gateway to the universe. The square is divided into four parts. The fifth part is the centre, itself designed to emanate and represent divine harmony in contrast to the confusion and disorder of the material world around us. Carl Gustav Jung believed that the mandala was an archetypal symbol of the human need for psychological interaction with others. Many researchers have also believed that it expresses a spiritual journey beyond the self. Our world is dual, and the dragon embodies the duality of this world. The dragon is the oldest symbol found in almost all mythologies. It symbolises the mysteries of life, intertwining good and evil, life and death, the eternal and the transient. Its symbolism is ambivalent: it can be solar and lunar, male and female, good and evil. Combining the characteristics of various animals - bird's wings, tiger's paws, snake's neck, deer's horns - the dragon symbolises the unity of the four elements. The symbolic meaning of the four elements is as follows: the dragon lives in the bowels of the earth or in the depths of the water, flies through the air and breathes fire. More often, however, the dragon is depicted as a combination of bird and serpent, celestial and terrestrial.

My name is Kilchevskaya Iuliana. I was born and live in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. I loved to draw since my early childhood, so my parents took me to drawing circles, and at the age of 15 I graduated from the Shchusev Art School. I tried poetry, music and dance, one of my poems was even published in the Almanac. But these hobbies were temporary, and after graduating from the art school there was no doubt that I had to continue my search for myself in the direction of fine arts. To this end, I entered the College of Technology. There was a wide field for creativity: we drew models of clothes, sewed and organized, improvised, fashion shows. After my bachelor's degree, I was sure that my profession should be related to drawing, so I entered the Faculty of Arts and Crafts at the I. Creanga Pedagogical University. It was my place of strength, where I got my daily energy. Absolutely all subjects gave me joy and pleasure. All the arts I had ever dreamed of studying were represented there: jewelry, ceramics, tapestry, batik, graphics, painting, history of art, drawing, photography, basics of decorative arts and other subjects. After graduating from the university I was invited to work in Russia, in the city of St. Petersburg, in the exclusive agency "Sophia", where I had a unique opportunity to practice all the areas I studied at the institute: I painted walls and clothes, painted on glass and fabrics, and painted paintings for sale. In St. Petersburg I was lucky enough to attend the painting classes of the abstract artist Vadim Boronenko, as well as poetry evenings, theaters, museums and concerts... This is an unforgettable, amazing period of my life! After working in St. Petersburg for 4 years, I returned to my hometown Chisinau and decided to find a job with a stable schedule and income. A few years passed, but life without my favorite work lost its meaning. And then I started painting again, studied new painting techniques, attended on-line courses, master classes in Moscow and Italy. In 2022, at the exhibition "Moldova Are Arta", fate in the person of Iurie Palkov brought me together with amazing people (Christina Balan, Olesya Muntean, Maxim Dovbysh), my like-minded people, with whom we came up with the idea of painting together, united by spiritual values and common meanings. We have already held two exhibitions together: in Chisinau and in Bucharest, and we have big plans for the future.
