About The Artwork

From photography, colour selection, placement & planning, my background of textiles & interiors influences my art. This piece was inspired from fishing with my son, where there are stunning carp ponds, near a fishing lake which we regularly visit. I use my own photography for my work. I carefully chose the colour for the fish, by researching this season’s trends for interiors. I like to work on a large scale so that the artwork is a statement piece for a room. Working with oil paints, each tiny scale is painted individually. The oils let me blend the colour easily & give a glossy finish. I poured washes of water colour oil, over the large linen canvas, for the water to give a natural flowing effect around the fish. I worked the oils on the fish to create a 3D effect with the scales, blending the oil paints to give depth. I want the viewer to get lost in this piece. The fish do not have faces & the scales have patterns in them. The artwork is design orientated.
