ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Colorful, plein-air original landscape oil painting on canvas. This bright, vertical artwork is a special painting. Clear colors articulate the vibrant character of natures landscape in a way that takes the viewer on a magical journey. With contemporary style, the abstract landscape exaggerates the simple shapes of trees, flowers and land with sensitivity and character in a unique, engaging way. The visual story invites the viewer into a canvas filled with warm oranges and touches of red that dance with cool turquoise and indigo blues. Throughout this beautiful painting a bold use of line simplifies the landscapes architecture creating an abstract quality to the work of art. This expressive painting is further enhanced by visible texture created through the use of pronounced brushwork. This is a signed original painting that was painted using premium grade oil paints and walnut oil as the medium. The artwork was created on a gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted in conjunction with the body of the work. As a result, the artwork can be hung framed or unframed since the sides are finished. ** This was painted on site at Sayen Gardens in New Jersey. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you!

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
