About The Artwork

The Sun God is the dispeller of fear; his bright light casts away shadows. Mythic Apollo is an image of consciousness to dispel the darkness. He represents the spirit of the future, hope and clarity of daylight. Mythic images spring from the human imagination and describe human experiences in a poetic language. The archetypal nature of mythology strikes and reflects our shared experiences. In this painting, I created a connection between events of the present and images of the past. We have many experiences again and again on different levels at different times of life. When we encounter an Apollo-like spirit, we are armed with foresight, purpose and faith in the striving human spirit. Music lifts and speaks with a transpersonal voice, crossing cultures while saying yes to life even in its strangest and most complex problems.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Rachel Rovay is a contemporary artist; her thematic focus is on the experience of living in and around Melbourne’s urban environment. My art practice is based on observation, investigation, and wonderment. I find inspiration in the street corner, outdoor cafes, botanical gardens, backyards, interiors, and our everyday life. My art seeks to connect the sensibility of nature and re-engage the viewer with its essence. The element of surprise keeps me absorbed through the discovery of the unique and the illuminating. The principles of colour and shape are critical in my work as both create a positive response to our structured lives. A pictorial impact creating a sense of energy, much like the sun stimulating new life within an ecosystem. Innovative art methods allow me to explore the wilderness of thought and perception. An awareness of the ordinary, drawing attention to our connection to the urban space, the day-to-day common place. The unremarkable becomes and transforms into the extraordinary.
