Lioness, resting in the "golden hour". The golden hour, also called magical hour, is a term that describes the short period after sunrise or before sunset when there is more indirect sunlight, making the light more red and softer.

The word "golden" also refers to the Golden Age, a period in Dutch history in the seventeenth century. The Netherlands flourished in the fields of trade, science and the arts. I painted this lioness in the traditional way of the "old masters", layer over layer in oil. I only used the pigments that Rembrandt also used and applied his way of impasto. In this way I created a real "Orange, Dutch lion".

My name is Nanda Hoep, I am an Award-winning Dutch artist. In 2019 I was the FIRST PRIZE WINNER at the yearly "Richeson75 Animals, Birds & Wildlife" competition. In 2018 I won the FIRST PRIZE in the category Realism-Animals in the American Art Awards competition (also wins in 2016/2017/2018). My works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Belgium and the United Kingdom. I describe my highly realistic paintings of animals as a pathway to creating a connection and a sense of empathy from the viewer. I endeavor to know my subjects as best I can in order to represent them "as beautifully as nature does". My incredibly detailed compositions are created using oils on canvas or linen. Characteristic of the singularity in my work is the approach to the subject, which is mainly expressed in the way of cropping - macro - and lighting. Spectators (and new owners) of my work often feel very close to the animal by the look in the eyes and the majestic, unique and untouchable appearance of the portrayed animal. My paintings are displayed in numerous private collections internationally, for example in The Netherlands, UK, Belgium, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong and the United States. Commissions (including wildlife and/or pets) are welcome. You can always contact me for more details, or an acquaintance.
