About The Artwork

You know when you look into a tree, especially in the bright afternoon, and see bits of light filtering through the leaves? You know that beauty? It's the essence of what I am trying to capture in my painting. The diffusion of light that pools into colors. The shapes that the light makes getting through all those leaves. That's what I love. Everything breaks down into shapes of colors. I have been influenced by Pierre Bonnard. He was part of the Nabi painters, a post Impressionistic period in the early 1930s. I once was an art copyist at the Met and got assigned to study two of Bonnard's pieces. It is impossible to copy his works. His brush strokes are sporadic. But for 2 semesters I stood in front of his works and tried to do just that. I hope that lovers of this style will feel the warmth of those trees and sunlight.

Rebecca Darlington is a visual artist living and working in New York City. Rebecca creates artworks with light, color and shapes of prolific growth and beauty. She moved to NYC 6 years ago from the Hudson Valley. Although her living quarters are much smaller now she enjoys all of the deliciousness of being in New York. For 25 years she lived on the side of a mountain. Her only neighbors were acres of trees, herds of deer and spectacular seasons of color. The impression of that time and the link she formed with earth elements left a permanent imprint in the back of her vision field. Using narrative patterns of figures and fauna Rebecca plays with oil sticks and collage, including 3D elements, saturated color and any means of mixed media to create a sense of joy. She prefers to send a message that the world is teaming with expansive energy. It’s a feast and a bounty. Rebecca Darlington enjoys attending artist residencies. Her fellowships are listed below.
