About The Artwork

I didn't expect to do any more in my little series of Hatters but I woke up one morning with this image in my mind and have since worked a further two. The great thing is, although they are depicting the same subject, they are all so very different. The name "Hatters" is given to people from Luton (UK), the town where I was born, which used to be almost entirely dedicated to the hat industry. I remember visiting the factories as a child and being given felt to make my little dolls' clothes. Those were the days when people did without many of the things we have today, but they never went without a hat! The Hatters V is painted all around a deep-edged, gallery wrapped canvas and strung at the back for immediate hanging in your home.

I have recently moved back to the UK after living in Italy for almost all my adult life. The Mediterranean lifestyle features greatly in my work and I hope it continues to do so. Check out my latest slideshow on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XKGOFS3ao0&feature=youtu.be Rosalind Roberts is a full-time English artist, living and working in Milan, Italy. My art is all about people and how they relate to their environment. In the sunshine or in the shade. Even when no figure can be seen in a painting, the human being with all his/her moods and eccentricities, fragility and strength, is still very present. Where would we be without other people? Interacting with others is a necessity and I find myself drawn to depicting this interaction. Being an artist for me means being on a never-ending learning curve. You can never put the brush down and say, “Right, I’ve mastered it”. You have to continually strive to improve and refine your technique. Sometimes it can be very frustrating and then one day, click, you’ve moved along the curve a little bit more and the sun is shining down on you. Thanks to Saatchiart and the Internet, I now have collectors all over the world, some of whom I am in contact with on a regular basis. It gives me enormous pleasure to think of my creations hanging on walls all over the world and to thank my collectors, I always enclose a surprise gift in their package.
