About The Artwork

Everyone sees things in a different light. Even my stream lighting, webcam/mobile cam can’t capture what I see as colour, saturation and brightness, no matter how much I tweak the settings. Just like this painting will speak a different language to the one spoken to. Upon completion I asked my audience what this painting is expressing. To some it speaks of anger and fury, to others it speaks of death and loss. To me it is relentless passion and excitement as this was my very first piece of acrylic impasto with the palette knife in over 10 years. I’ve been yearning to get back into making this art for so long. During 2010 I bought acrylic paint and palette knives and challenged myself with this form of art as a hobby and I created my first ever impasto for my mother. Though more than a decade has passed with life pushing one in all directions. I started pulling myself back to the playful creative state I once had by starting something simple and some would say not artistic or creative enough. That was fluid acrylic in 2021. December of 2022, I finally saved enough to invest in proper supplies to start up impasto painting again. For me this means big scale paintings as one can use your whole body’s energy into those palette strokes.

Jowyn du Plessis is in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa, amidst the vibrant energy of the city selling her works worldwide. Her works can currently be found in private collections in the US, Germany, Canada, UK and South Africa. What she believes in: ........................................................... For me, art isn't merely a product—it's the quintessence of humanity, an echo of emotions, and a dance with the infinite. From my studio, I embark on a playful and adventurous exploration, delving into the depths of my soul to uncover the mysteries that lie within. Inspired by the interplay of color and shape, I transcend the bounds of conventional expression. Each stroke is a manifestation of emotion, a dialogue between the seen and the unseen, a dance with myself in a rhythm of colors and motifs. My philosophy as a painter is rooted in intuition and spontaneity. I eschew sketches, preferring instead to immerse myself fully in the moment, allowing the canvas to be a reflection of my innermost self. With each brushstroke, I pour my heart and soul onto the canvas, creating a visual symphony that transcends language and culture. My art defies categorization, for I am a chameleon of creativity, drawing inspiration from the world around me. From vibrant explosions of color to serene monochromes, each piece is a testament to the boundless spectrum of human experience. As I navigate through life, my art becomes a journey of transformation—a narrative of growth, vulnerability, and self-realization. I seek to provoke introspection and connection, to spark conversations that transcend the boundaries of time and space. In the age of fleeting moments and endless distractions, I strive to create art that demands pause—a moment of profound silence amidst the chaos of everyday life. Through every canvas I breathe life into, I offer glimpses of my soul, inviting others to find solace, inspiration, and reflection. My paintings speak a language of their own, a language of color, light, and emotion. They defy analysis, demanding instead an intuitive reflection—an immersion into the depths of one's own consciousness. In the play of light and color, I find my voice, my purpose, and my passion. Through art, I seek to capture the ineffable beauty of existence, to weave together fragments of the human experience into a tapestry of emotions that resonate with all who encounter them.
