"The Moment Before I Knew" is not a portrait of a person, but a state of mind. Conflicted, vivid, honest. It invites viewers to confront the complexity of being seen. Sompolińska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the fragmented nature of identity, emotion, and perception. Moving fluidly between painting, drawing, and textile-based forms, she constructs distorted portraits that expose the unseen or suppressed aspects of the human experience. Her visual language is raw, expressive, and often unsettling. Marked by bold lines, unexpected color, and emotional ambiguity. Whether through ink on paper or sculptural tufting, Sompolińska invites viewers into a space of introspection, discomfort, and resonance, where feelings take form before meaning is assigned. Born in Poland and currently based in Amsterdam, she continues to expand her practice across mediums while remaining deeply rooted in psychological inquiry and human identity.
