Using a unique visual language, Pawelec's paintings take viewers on a fervent journey through the universe. These "Expressions of the Abstract" explore life's energy as well as the great unknown beyond us. They strive to become a spiritual aesthetic for the future. A native New Yorker, Pawelec began his arts education at the Huntington School of Fine Art, and from there he graduated on to Pratt Institute's fashion design program. The artist later explored endeavors in graphic design and technology, as well as catalog creation for Christie's Auction House. This wide array of experiences brings a broad perspective to Pawelec's work as a fine artist. Pawelec creates art that is both original in theme as well as technique. The primary medium in his works are pigment based paints of his own creation, allowing him to achieve incredibly vibrant hues. He also combines elements of action painting, physical layering, and fine brushwork, making the pieces furiously free flowing yet intricate in composition. Pawelec's work draws from many influences, referencing artists such as Rothko, Basquiat, and Blinky Palermo. In addition, it pulls form a large variety of spiritual iconography including Egyptian and Late Renaissance art such as that of Michelangelo. In his pursuit of creating a spiritual aesthetic for the future, the artist has coined his works "Expressions of the Abstract" which concentrates on our connection to the universe as well as the struggles we incur as we move through it. Ian Pawelec currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
