The Raven Mistress Painting

This trio of woman and Stag with Ravens was an imaginative take, originally on the theme of Diana the Huntress. As I painted it, a different idea formed in my mind of an ancient female warrior line somewhere in the Scottish Highlands perhaps, with mystical powers over animals. Although it is peaceful and harmonious, there is a sense of watching and alertness. The blood red of her cape/blanket re-inforces the idea of a battle one Raven appears to be warning her of something. I love the idea of this mystic communion between wild beasts and humans, especially women; and I loved painting this. It was painted almost entirely from imagination with few photo references and no live model. The feel is rich and oldy worldy and the diffused light was acheived by working up several layers over a golden underpainting. The work itself is in Oil paint on linen canvas, measuring 20 by just under 26 inches. It is sold un-framed and will require framing. Some ideas of different types of frames given in the photos.
