About The Artwork

We are born into religion - belief of a kind or lack thereof. So what do I make of it ? To a 'believer' it is shelter and validation, for society a social engineering tool that has defined our history and civilisations. I quote from Wikipedia for Freud's take: "In The Future of an Illusion Freud refers to religion as an illusion which is "perhaps the most important item in the psychical inventory of a civilization". In his estimation, religion provides for defense against "the crushingly superior force of nature" and "the urge to rectify the shortcomings of civilization which made themselves painfully felt".He concludes that all religious beliefs are "illusions and insusceptible of proof." What is telling however is his opinion that without religion, people will feel "exempt from all obligation to obey the precepts of civilization"

Retro-modern - that's what you can call my work. My palette is loud - I dream in colour. -------- It's been a broken journey. I discovered paint first as a child in junior school - used only black and grays much to the dismay of the art teacher - also, scribbled obsessively with pen and pencil; pages and pages - anything and everything. Then virtually nothing - After a hiatus of years, decades, living alone in Dubai, fed-up with pub crawling, slipping into depression, unearthed a dried out box of water colours during a clean up my daughter's desk - four years after she'd left to join her mother in London. It was a dam burst - I been painting since - Art ? If it is true - it is. That was 14 years ago. In London now - the light is different - the air free; starting to dream again - different dreams.
