ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Rest and Be Thankful is the name of a mountain pass at the head of Glen Croe in the west of Scotland. The words 'Rest and be thankful' were carved in stone by soldiers who built the original military road in 1753. The climb out of the glen is so long and steep that travellers would rest at the top and be thankful for having reached the highest point. The painting uses acrylic paint on acid-free tissue paper with highlights of conté and watercolour pencil. The tissue has been adhered to 290g watercolour paper with Golden soft gel medium and given a final layer of protection with Golden UV satin varnish. Signed both on the front and on the reverse with description and title. Picture dimensions: 14 x 8.75" ( 356 x 222 mm) External mount dimensions to fit a standard frame: 16 x 12” (406 x 305 mm)

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

You’ll usually see me thinking about composition, playing with pattern and testing spatial relationships, that sort of thing. As for anything else I think about how it affects all the above. I enjoy looking for unlikely structures and trying out fleeting interractions. The question of balance is never far away. When it comes to meaning, the torn and faded materials in my collages show where man has been. I suppose everything reflects an unidealised view of humanity. But I’m also attracted to the opposite, the wide expanses of nature (especially the sea) where there’s not much humanity at all. My influences may not be apparent… I keep coming back to Cézanne and Matisse.
