ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Rialto marquee on Broadway in Los Angeles holds the title of longest neon marquee remaining in the city. It is nearly all that remains of the original building which was recently turned into a retail space. The current tenant restored the neon just weeks after I painted this more drab moment in time. Ink, acrylic on linen. 36" x 48". This piece is painted on coarse linen, stretched over a wood panel. The paint obscures the texture of the linen, much of which is left exposed, creating a unique surface that shifts in texture and finish. The linen wraps the edges of the panel.
