This piece is inspired by the famous artist Katsushika Hokusai and his well known wave compositions, I have developed my own gestures and techniques when applying oil glazes, bringing together and in fact mixing influences from both East and West. I use oils on canvas or board in a traditional way and use a renaissance palette as my base. I introduce new colours and use traditional fine art techniques with mixtures of more abstract, broad brush strokes to give life and vitality to my work. Portraiture and figurative art have been my foundation and my latest collections of oils are enjoying more of a free flow with the emphasis on contrasting light and depth. I love the mythological, romantic themes of the famous Bouguereau and the subject and style of Turner in contrast.
