This painting was painted early in the morning while it was still dark out. My studio is in my house so I can, if the spirit moves me, paint at any time day or night. I woke up and decided to go downstairs and paint. The painting is in the form of a cross, but I believe has no Christian symbolism. I could be wrong. My paintings are improvisations, and I am influenced by the improvisational style in modern jazz. This painting, in its spikeyness, could be a response to an up-tempo jazz tune, full of nervous energy. There is also in much of my work and organic feel that stems from my interest in nature.
