ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Acrylics on canvas, 36” x 36”, gallery-wrapped. Inspired by one of the most beloved creatures to ever call the Tampa Bay area home. That would be the manatee named Snooty, I affectionately refer to him as “the Snoot”. He brought so much joy and happiness to scores of visitors and his caretakers for 69 years… 69 years! He deserves to be immortalized in bronze! He was born just five days before me which made me feel a certain kinship with him and, like so many, I was heartbroken when I heard of his passing and have been driven for some time now to paint him. I hope my expressionist effort has done him justice. Like the angels that welcomed him to cross the Rainbow Bridge said, “You done good my friend.” Rest in peace Snooty.

Tony A. Blue - American Artist, known by some as the Warren Zevon of contemporary painters. "My acrylics/mixed media work is on wood or canvas and my style leans to the expressionistic side - even my landscapes. Often I like additional texture in my work and sometimes I also add other elements, i.e. copper, barbed wire, newsprint, etc. - it helps me get to the heart of the matter. Painting gives me a means to express myself and what is on my mind, even if it's a little bizarre and/or whimsical at the time! Since I was born and raised in America, many times my work translates to an American persuasion. However, the way the world is shrinking, I expect the rest of the planet may also relate to the message that's in much of my work. One thing for sure, it's a crazy mixed up world we live in - I'm going to need a lot more paint."
