ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My abstract paintings evolve as I build up layers of paint and work into them. They cannot be planned and can often take weeks to complete. Their name will often arise from a word or a thought I have towards to the end of the painting. 'The Ties That Bind' is from the 'Ancestry' series of work. Exploring the relationships between family members, how lives are intertwined and connected, how everything appears to be fine on the surface but underneath it all there is dysfunction. This painting has been framed with a white floating frame.

Rae Melody, originally from Yorkshire and currently based in Chippenham in the UK is a contemporary painter who studied surface pattern design and printing at Leeds. With a background as a former art teacher, Melody is passionate about using art as a means of improving mental health. In her current role as a Freelance Facilitator at the RWA gallery, Bristol she actively encourages self-expression through play and experimental work, particularly in the workshops she conducts for young people who are educated in specialised provisions. Melody's artistic journey is marked by an exploration of the past, present, and future. Her diverse portfolio includes abstract, weathered paintings and vibrant typography with geometrically entwined shapes. Her signature distressed and layered abstract paintings express her fascination with time, space and history. Melody’s work has been included in exhibitions at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol and the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath. She has work in the Permanent Collection at Chippenham Museum and has been embraced by private collectors both nationally and internationally. Melody has exhibited her work at the Superfine Art Fair, New York and the Art2Life International Exhibition, contributing to her growing international presence.
