About The Artwork

Painted on site: The Promenade, Sault, France in 2012. The Promenade is a large park area in Sault, France which is a popular place for "Petanque" players and tourists. The painting was begun on site as a "Plein Air" painting. However, the woman left and I finished the painting later in our studio in Aurel, France. I enjoyed her relaxed pose and her self confidence in a foreign country. I believe she was Scandinavian or German, as I heard her speak those languages to her colleagues while painting her. She was not aware I was painting her. I often go to the Promenade to paint both the colorful, local people and the visiting tourists. Most often, I use ink and watercolor for sketches, but this time I went to the park with oils.
