About The Artwork

Painting: Japanese, Chinese ink, mineral pigments and watercolors on rice paper. For those of you who have seen some of my other grapevine paintings, you already know that the Priorat, a unique wine country in my second homeland Catalonia, has inspired most of my wine paintings. One of the vineyards I have painted most and admired most is from an old winery called 'Mas Plantadeta' located on a slope in the valley of the Serra del Montsant, at La Vilella Baixa. One day the junior winegrower of this family cellar invited me to visit it, to taste their wines and tour the vineyards. There were terraces full of grapevines, almonds and olives, growing in abundance and soon ready for the harvest. A feeling of peace and beauty filled my heart, as if I had seen a valley where innocence is recovered and nature and mankind speak of harmony and peace. At the end of the visit the winegrower gave me a basket full of grapes, fruit and vegetables and I thanked him for so much generosity. Size of the scroll in cm: 207 x 82 x 0,2 cm. The wooden scroll adds 4,5 cm or 1.96 inches on each side. The scroll will be shipped rolled in a traditionally-made silk box.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
