1,744 tiles. ~410 hours. 193 layers. 70 different kinds of paint/materials. 41 pounds. 7 years. 4 studios. 1 complete painting. As many of you know, I have two separate bodies of work. The colorful anatomical figures, and these complex organic abstracts. I enjoy creating both equally, although the abstracts take up a lot more space and time, two things that come at a premium here in New York. This piece has been an on again, off again labor, for a period of time even hung up and considered as finished. It's chaotic, multifaceted, highly complex, and contains a multitude of emotions and convictions and soft quiet days. I realize now that this piece represents probably the last of its kind. I've enjoyed creating abstracts in this style, but I feel perhaps I've taken it as far as I can, and there's no more interest in experimenting or pushing the style further. This more or less led me to its name. It seems the older I get the harder it becomes to name my work, so although this piece was finished a few months back, it's been silently sitting in my peripheral, waiting to be titled.
