‘The Whispering Scream’ explores epigenetics (if you are unfamiliar with the term, read about it, it will blow your mind) - as humans we experience inherited trauma, more so than we realise, it is passed down through our DNA. Does this work the same way in the environment? When a land is decimated, forests logged, waters tainted, will it remember? When the land has experienced death and destruction upon it, how is that recognised? Will it pass down through its DNA the trauma the eco system would have felt. I’m making some pretty big assumptions here, like can an eco-system even feel trauma, maybe not in the same way as we do, but it’s a living system, made of the same energy that we are, right? There is DNA in every living thing, so why would it be any different? ‘The Whispering Scream’ is encompassing, it is a narrative of the land and of the people that live on it, the shared inherited trauma, the shared resilience, the shared courage and beauty. It is a celebration of all that we are, together, connected, fully alive and awake. My intention is to create artwork that inspires people to connect with that part of themselves that makes them feel truly alive and magnetically present. With abstract pieces I also encourage the viewer to connect and decide what the piece means to them. 'The Whispering Scream', is full of layers, colour and texture, incorporating professional artist grade paints, finished with a UV protecting varnish. This piece is ready to hang. There is a lot in this painting and requires many viewing to fully appreciate the scale of the narrative. As in many of the pieces I produce, the colours used, the movement and energy of paint application are directly connected to the energy and feeling of the environment I am in, which is both physical & mental. It is an interpretation of energy and emotion of past, present and potential future.
