This Knots with Flora painting was inspired by Sendak's beautiful children's book - Where The Wild Things are. The palette hints at the tones in the book. As a child, at my Cutler Ridge Library, there were a couple cardboard cutouts of the Monsters there just to greet you as you walked the hallways. This painting employs a kind of John Cage Chance Operation technique. Thus I roll there die - a red, a green, and a white. I pull from 6 character knots and I opt for 6 points on longitude and 6 points on latitude for the painting's composition. This offers me a mysterious collaborator. The pale blues and greens hang as a haze within the painting.
