ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A group of men in a back room, possibly of a leather bar. They compose themsellves as a Pieta group. Only the main figure, is not safely cradled in his mum’s loving embrace, but he is upside down held by a guy. I didn’t experience any negative judgement during the work done on the painting. I didn’t want to find moralistic messages, the painting is what you see. Men at play. The choice of a pastel palette was influenced by the fact that I saw the remake of the film Suspiria, when I was painting this picture and the remake of this film differed from the original in the choice of colours. In the original, primary red and blue were the very flavour of the film. In the remake, made by an Italian director i don’t like very much, but loved in this film, went for pastels, with results that surprised me in a positive way.

Born in Veneto, italy in 1958, living and working in London. After a few unexpected turns in my life that changed me in many different ways, I was able to get n touch with my dormant creative self in 2018. In that year, I was no longer afraid to start calling myself an artist, before, by describing myself as such, i was afraid it would have taken me toward unwanted destinations. But I arrived to a point of having to get out my pictures, because I had to. They were coming out of me. I dedicated myself to learning and practicing my craft, working silently and in isolation up to 2021. After the pandemic and lockdown, I decided to move for 5 months a year to Brazil, on s surfer’s beach, which it is rustic but very comfortable: the beach of Pipa, in the north-east of Brazil. This influenced my art very much. My palette has become bolder, richer, my subjects alive with mythology, folklore, legends and characters. The backgrounds sunny and dreamy. I felt that I no longer needed to work in silence. In London I work from my studio in South London and I have chosen to express elements of the Collective Unconscious. i paint archetypes and symbols interacting and dwelling in urban settings. Update: after having developed an understanding of working with ópio paint on canvas and having developed my own ability to control this challenging method, I developed a desire to branch out of the expected and start using different materials to express myself. Although i haven’t abandoned the traditional form of expression using oil on canvas, I am now interested to experiment how paint behaves on a variety of different surfaces, including recycled material, cardboard, printed paper, fabric and objects. Although i am very sure of the images produced, I don’t think most of this work is ready to enter the market yet. I am preparing for making my own frames to complete these pieces and give them a lasting life. At the moment they are still fragile and could perish or deteriorate if handled without the due care. As soon as they will be safely framed and ready to be hung on a wall, I will be able to put them on the market. If anyone is interested in any of the pictures described as NOT FOR SALE, please contact Saatchi Art and I will concentrate on the piece of interest in order to finish it and be able to sell it.
