ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The painting "The Big dive" depicts a swimming pool next to a modern house, with a diver who has just jumped from a diving board. It pays homage to the famous pop art painting by the English artist David Hockney, in which however a large jet of water created by the diver appears, a few seconds after Trevisan's painting. In the painting we see a swimming pool with a building with 1960s modernist architecture behind it, typical of Californian houses. From the right edge of the painting protrudes a yellow diving board, above which a diver in a red swimsuit is suspended in the blue of the pool, the edge of which is outlined by a blue stripe and a thinner white one. The positioning of the trampoline, coming diagonally from the corner, gives perspective as well as cutting through the predominant horizontal lines. The colors used are deliberately homogeneous and bold to emphasize the strong Californian light and give the painting a pop art version. The yellow diving board stands out spectacularly against the turquoise water of the pool, which echoes in the soft turquoise of the sky. Between sky and water, a strip of flesh-colored land denotes the horizon and the space between the pool and the building. The architecture of the building is represented by a rectangular block with two windows. Three palm trees with long, thin trunks adorn the background of the painting, while others are reflected in the building's windows. A row of low green vegetation decorates the facade.
