ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work is part of the series "Blow up". The Great Magnification is a manifesto for the artist's return to the most important thing for him - to the canvas. Three halls of the exposition make it possible to show three directions or three spheres of interests of Alexey Begak. In the first room are the canvases that gave the name to the exhibition itself - a large increase in the truest sense of the word. The second hall demonstrates works, the task of which is to minimize the visual means and concentrate on the main thing - on the essence of the object. They are made in only two colors: white and black: "Burnt Bone" and "Ivory Black". In the third room there is a series of works that the artist himself defines as suspense, tense anticipation. At first glance, these canvases depict the real world and its fragments, but this world was invented and developed by the artist in his works.

«Painting is akin to a looking glass. When I fall through, I can't remember what my name is, can't distinguish time or space. I am the way I was created initially, - with no name, no judgments and no vanity. Painting is a territory of complete freedom, to the extend it is possible for a homo sapiens.» «We are constantly accelerating and, as we run by, we miss all the grandeur of details that surround us. While in these details reside the souls of things. The beauty of the world is staggering and, contrary to the overall acceleration (which I personally like myself), I leisurely examine the thing, that had stopped me stunned.» «Painting is a very simple craft: an ability and desire to be surprised, grand love for the portrayed object, whether it is a pine grove or a Black Square it doesn't matter, and... a slight ability to paint». Born in Moscow on the 10th of March 1960 Parents: Dmitryi Begak and Irina Levitina – Bolshoi Theater Ballet Dancers.
