ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is inspired by Crete sunsets but with a little more drama. I tried to make it vibrant and passionate. This artwork is painted on top of an old painting because I care about sustainability. Painting is framed in a black floating wooden frame with a decorative stripe (aged silver color, visible in second photo).

I am a self-taught painter - currently obsessed with mysticism, inspired by the old masters works, eternity, religion, the mysteries of man and the nature, and the even - afterlife. When painting simple objects and abstractions, I try to give them a mystery that keeps the viewer's eye on the work for longer, causing a desire to explore it. Whether the work is figurative or abstract, the viewer is left with the impression of fog, of a mysterious light penetrating through it, as if our eyes could deceive us. I often use a palette of darker colours, as if to emphasise that in a sense we are in the dark ourselves, and that we can only perceive certain things very vaguely. However I still keep on looking for my own style and developing my skills. At this moment I am very keen on trying different styles - from abstract to impressionism and realism. I think a good artist should go through various stages of creativity until it finds his own path. Painting in different styles improves my skills, diversity, fantasy - I know I never get bored while doing that. As life goes by at a great pace, as we get caught up in routines, we are often oblivious to what lies above it all? Is there the "other side" or the "light at the end of the tunnel", where the line between reality and fantasy is blurred? Since ancient times, people have been attracted to the unknown, to mysteries, and in my paintings I seek to convey a mood that makes the viewer stop for a moment and think what is it that he is seeing. I like to give the viewer the opportunity to create his own story, so I never try to explain what the painting means.
