Thicket Painting

I am inspired by mid-century color, design, style, architecture, fabric, pattern and atomic motifs. I methodically create rows of small dots which resemble striations. The paintings sometime refer to landscapes, but they are created as pure abstractions. The striations cross over different surfaces and shapes moving horizontally in an exploration of transparency and opacity, which reverse unexpectedly, as do textured and smooth surfaces. By limiting conjecture and removing variables, the opportunities that arise become more specific and provide a direction for investigation. These inexact paintings present no specific resolution or isolation of meaning. They are constructed spaces generated through thought and revised though feeling.
