Tidal Forces of the Moon Painting

My paintings are an exploration of poisoned and abandoned lands I find while traveling and near where I live and work. I imagine cutting out these contaminated lots and superfund sites to create new hybrid forms somewhere between natural and manmade, representational and abstract. My work is highly process-oriented and steeped in materiality. The rehabilitated masses emerge from the contained chaos of a paint pour. The thick, glossy paint erupts on the panel and causes a reaction to other paints by cracking and flowing in both a playful and toxic way. This duality conveys a sense of both the beauty and contamination I see in the American landscape.
