As a midwife in an earlier profession my work looks at the crossover between science and art. This work alludes to the female body through the use of the ovoid shape and the flower as a motif to evoke fecundity and fertility. “The word fecundity which sounds like drum talk when said aloud, means more than fertile, it means pregnable, the way soil is pregnable. That black soil glittering with mica, black hairy roots and all life that has gone before, broken down into a fragrant sludge of humus. The word fertility on the other hand has behind it the sense of seeds, eggs, beings, ideas. Fecundity is the basal matter in which seeds are laid, prepared, warmed, incubated, saved.” Excerpt from WOMAN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES - Clarissa Pinkola Estes In 2015

In 2015 I graduated with a BA Fine Art (Hon) from the University of CapeTown. My work is contemporary and current and the concepts I work with are often drawn from a rich reservoir of my earlier years as a midwife and psychiatric nurse. I interrogate ideas around the Body, Reproduction and emotional states.
