I spent some time on Maine beaches this summer, during the pandemic. One beach in particular had quite an impact on me. Jasper Beach carries the nickname "singing beach" and the shore line is covered in large, smooth stones of medium to small size. The ocean would ebb and flow through these stones causing them to "sing." Much like listening to the ocean in a conch shell, this experience was magical to me. I shared the experience with my family, which has become a much closer unit during this pandemic. I took the memory and feeling back to my studio. The result was unexpected, but makes sense. The images in this painting are organic and similar to the stone-shape on the beach. They are connected, linked and sharing space together. So they are never alone. Together, we are never alone. I want people to remember that through this difficult year.

I investigate the layering and interaction of color, shape, and line as they contribute to our interpretation of depth, movement and beauty. Often described as a colorist, my work is also about finding light. My chosen medium is acrylic and I am currently creating abstract imagery. Drawing from memories, moods and the paint combinations on my palette, I start with a loose composition, which I cover, layer, remove, repaint and cover again, transforming the piece through many stages. Working through this searching process, I create multi-layered vistas that are reminiscent of things familiar. I hold a BFA in graphic design and an MA in Sociology. My studio is located in the Canopy artist complex at 916 Springdale Road in Austin, TX. I have lived in Austin since 2007. I am committed to a life making and celebrating art.
