About The Artwork
‘Torii Gate at Itsukushima’ original acrylic and ink painting on cut paper. Presented in a 25.5 x 25.5cm black box frame. Itsukushima-jinja (厳島神社) is a Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima, best known for its “floating” torii gate. It is in the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The shrine complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are two distinct layers lifted from a dark background, creating an interesting theatrical effect as each raised shape casts a shadow on the illustration below. This painting is packed in a cardboard box, protected inside with tissue paper, eco bubble wrap and void filling brown paper.
