About The Artwork
“Total Confusion” was my thinking as I built-up this visual expression from several layers of brushed acrylics, masked and sprayed acrylics, plus extra work using a spatula or palette knife… the painting being completed on a stretched 100% linen canvas measuring 81 x 60 cms. The original underlying theme again being Vauban and his defensive walls being overrun by armies; plus overlying blocks of colour as seen in some of the work of Liubov Popova - the early-20th century, pre-Russian Revolution artist - and then even more ‘confusion’ was added with an impression of the famous Shibuya commuter crossing in Tokyo, Japan.

Abstract artist... stock photographer... writer... plant-based... fixie-cyclist... minimalist... and easy going, I studied Interior Design at art college in the 1960s, then worked in the TV and film industry for more than a decade, before turning to photography full-time. Later I published and edited specialist photographic magazines on darkroom techniques for several years and continue to supply digital images to the world's largest photo agency from my current location here in France. However, in a hard working retirement I spend much more time and energy as an abstract fine artist working with all media from old-fashioned paper, pencil and paint to creative collage and canvas.
