The series of oil paintings of "Tower of lunatic" are included in the video work "Lunatic’s Voyage". “Tower of lunatic” reflects the thinking of the obscure boundary of the madness and the rationality from Michelle Foucault through arranging a strange voyage. Foucault believes there is an ambiguous boundary between rationality and madness. The rational world scared madness, refused lunatics, moreover marginalize and lock up lunatics. “The Fool of the ship” and “the Tower of madness” turned into a symbol of how the rational world treated the mad world. However, it is ironic that what rationality treats to madness formed a new kind of madness.

Dafu Yan, an artist, was born in Changde, Hunan Province in 1994. He graduated from the Department of Oil Painting of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts with a bachelor's degree in Shenyang in July 2016. Then, In January 2020, he graduated from the Chelsea College of Art, University of the Arts London with a Distinction Master's degree. Currently, he is one of an owner of 33ml Offspace, working and living in Hangzhou and Shanghai. The media of his works include installation, painting, moving images, and setting. The main context of the works is related to abstract social issues, especially the interactive relationship of energy, matter, and information in the context of globalization. He hopes that through the study of specific problems, it can be transformed into visual media works with subjective aesthetics.
