Treasure Paintings by JR Bissell: Marc Chagall x Mary Blair “The Color Love” Oh, the color of love is a sight to behold, It's not quite blue, it’s not quite gold, It's a hue that's warm and oh-so-bright, Like a sunrise on a cloudless night. And if you look up in the sky, You might just see a pirate ship, floating by! And on this love-filled color, we set sail, On a pirate ship that's free from jail, It floats on waves of pure delight, With its flag waving, oh what a sight! The pirate crew is a jolly bunch, They sing and dance and never hunch, Their ship glides on the water with ease, As they search for treasure in other seas. But their greatest treasure is the love they share, A bond so strong, it's beyond compare, It lifts them up, it keeps them afloat, And guides them through each uncharted moat. So if you see a pirate ship floating by, With colors of love that paint the sky, Wave hello and wish them well, As they journey on with love to sell. Chagall was known for being an artist with the soul of a poet (actually described as a poet with the wings of a painter). In fact, Chagall preferred the company of poets rather than artists. He’s known for painting in the color love. I’ve been following Mary Blair’s work in auction for the past 5 or so years. She’s the inspiration for It’s a Small World, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Peter Pan and many other infamous Disney movies. These two artists really went well together so I decided to do a collaboration piece. The painting style of Chagall with the subject matter leaning towards Mary Blair (although large elements of Chagall are included as well). Some of Mary Blair’s Peter Pan pieces really captivate me, especially the flying ships as depicted in the piece I did.
