ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Glades and Mirages: Fata Morgana The series of paintings, GLADES AND MIRAGES, addresses the concept of the mirage in nature. The Italians call it Fata Morgana. The Hudson Valley, with its gladed mountain and water features is a wonderland of magic and ambiguous landscape, conjuring the unknown: the OTHER. Some refer to it as the sublime or nirvana. The sufi’s call it al-mithal and Carl Jung named it the collective, symbolic unconscious. The mirage is idolized into a mysterious purity- a point of contact between the spiritual and material realms. These paintings are the song of this inner life and the striving for it.
